New York State Energy Research and Development Authority
The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) seeks proposals for the development and implementation of educational training programs in energy efficiency (EE), renewable energy (RE), and advanced technology (AT) for high school students. Proposers will be asked to develop and implement programs that prepare students for careers and/or post-secondary education, with a focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) skills. Programs should deliver appropriate, high school-level content in EE, RE and/or AT; provide opportunities for students to acquire college credits, industry certifications, job experience, or other career-focused experiences; and, where appropriate, use non-traditional approaches to teaching and learning, such as multidisciplinary instruction and project-based learning to help students explore real-world problems and issues.
Public, parochial or proprietary school districts, departments of education or BOCES accredited by the NYS Education Department;
Have NYS licensed and certified teaching staff committed to this project with documented experience in curriculum development and teaching in energy, science, technology, engineering, mathematics, career preparation, and/or related areas;
Possess experience integrating new material into existing curricula and/or developing new stand-alone curricular materials meeting local and NYS Department of Education standards for use in the secondary school;
Demonstrate connections to New York State-registered apprenticeship or pre-apprenticeship programs, community colleges or four-year schools;
Demonstrate plans to engage business and industry partners and professional organizations; and
Establish or demonstrate a relationship with the NYS Department of Labor Career Centers.
$1,750,000 is available. NYSERDA anticipates awarding approximately eight to 15 contracts, with a maximum award of $200,000 per contract.

The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) within the U.S. Department of Justice is now accepting applications for multidisciplinary research and evaluation proposals related to childhood exposure to violence. The NIJ is seeking proposals that address resilience, polyvictimization or justice system responses to children identified as exposed to various types of violence. For the purposes of this solicitation, “Children Exposed to Violence (CEV)?encompasses a broad area that includes children as both direct victims and as bystanders or observers of various forms of violence in the home, school or community (including, but not limited to, peer victimization/bullying/harassment, child maltreatment, domestic violence and community violence). This solicitation may be used to address other types of violence to which children are exposed, with the exception of media violence (e.g., television and movie violence, music-advocating aggression and violent video games).
States (including territories), units of local government (including federally recognized Indian tribal governments), nonprofit and for-profit organizations (including tribal nonprofit or for-profit organizations), institutions of higher education (including tribal institutions of higher education) and certain qualified individuals. United States Department of State
The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) within the U.S. Department of State is now accepting applications for their American Youth Leadership Program. The ECA seeks proposals to implement an exchange program for American high school students that will enable the participants to gain firsthand knowledge of foreign cultures and to collaborate on solving global issues. The award recipients will recruit and select participants from the United States and provide them with a three- to four-week exchange program in select countries abroad focused on dialogue and debate, leadership development, and community service. Upon returning home, the students will apply what they have learned to serve their schools and communities. The ECA plans to award multiple cooperative agreements for the management of the American Youth Leadership Program.
Applicants may propose to conduct only one exchange project under this competition and should choose from the list of eligible country projects available. Each project should cost a total of approximately $150,000 to $200,000 for a group of 15 to 20 youth participants, as well as 2 to 4 traveling adults. Applications may be submitted by public and private nonprofit organizations with 501(c)(3) status and four years experience in conducting international exchanges. All participants must be U.S. citizens and must be selected through a merit-based competition. The youth participants must be high school students aged 15 to 17 years old, with at least one semester of high school remaining after the exchange. The adults traveling on the exchange should be U.S. citizens and may include competitively selected participants (teachers, trainers, school administrators and/or community leaders who work with youth); staff of the award recipient organization and/or consultants.
The total $2,700,000 represents the base year plus one option year. For the 2014 base year, the funding total is $1,350,000. Pending successful performance and availability of funds, the total funding for the 2015 option year is $1,350,000.

Newman’s Own, The Fisher House Foundation and Military Times
Fisher House Foundation, a private-public partnership that supports America’s military in times of need, is accepting proposals from nonprofit organizations for the 2014 Newman’s Own Awards for creative ideas to improve the quality of life for service members and their families. Newman’s Own, Fisher House Foundation and the Military Times (Gannett Government Media Corporation) join together in presenting $200,000 in grants to the most creative military quality-of-life improvement plans.
To be eligible, an organization must be comprised primarily of volunteers or be a 501(c)3 not-for-profit supporting active duty, National Guard, or reserve unit(s) and/or veterans and their families. Funds may not be used to pay salaries or wages.
Awards will be made up to $50,000.

American Cancer Society
The American Cancer Society (ACS) has announced their request for applications focused on the Role of Healthcare and Insurance in Improving Outcomes in Cancer Prevention, Early Detection and Treatment. Studies investigating how one or more factors impacting access and outcomes interact ?such as insurance status, costs, capacity, personal characteristics, provider characteristics, components of the healthcare delivery system and other known factors ?are encouraged. Potential areas of investigation include, but are not limited to:
1. How the structure and capacity of the healthcare system affect appropriate and timely access to cancer screening, early detection, treatment and palliative care services.
2. The provider and system factors that affect treatment patterns and quality of cancer care within the current healthcare systems.
3. The exploration of life course patterns of the entire spectrum of cancer care (from prevention and screening through diagnosis, treatment, survivorship and supportive/palliative care) by linking diverse data sources for broad patient populations.
Not-for-profit institutions located within the United States, its territories and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico are eligible to apply. United States citizens, non-citizen nationals or permanent residents of the United States are eligible to apply. Independent investigators at all stages of their career are eligible to apply.

The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) is seeking applications for postdoctoral fellows to analyze existing data or collect new data on dating abuse among adolescents and young adults. The purpose of this program is to support the scholarship of one promising postdoctoral researcher to conduct original data collection and/or secondary data analyses on dating abuse among adolescents and/or young adults under the supervision of a mentor. Some areas of particular interest to NIJ include, but are not limited to, the following:
testing of behavioral measures of adolescent dating abuse victimization and/or perpetration;
research that furthers our understanding of abuse within and between relationships, and stability and changes across partners;
research that uses innovative methodologies to examine the role of contextual factors, such as financial independence, social networks and gender dynamics in dating violence; and
research about relationship violence and abuse during the transition to adulthood (Ages 16-24), which may include research involving college students.
